Ovulation induction is one of the indispensable part of an Assisted reproductive technology ART, program. The ovarian follicles are stimulated with fertility medications to grow and mature. Once mature these eggs are then aided with help of injections to break out of their respective follicles which is termed as ovulation. Ovulation induction can be combined with a natural cycle or an artificial insemination.
Ovum pick up or egg retrieval:
This is a key step in the ART program. Ovum pick up is the harvesting of the matured eggs before they undergo spontaneous ovulation by inserting a thin needle into the ovary under ultrasound guidance. This is done under anesthesia.
It is the placement of the fertilized eggs which are the embryos inside the uterus. It is done under ultrasound guidance and does not require anesthesia. Patients can go home after an hour of the procedure.
Endometrial receptivity analysis, ERA:
This is a molecular testing of the endometrial tissue to diagnose the state of endometrial receptivity and gene expression during the window of implantation. By diagnosing the receptivity the clinician can decide the day of embryo transfer to maximize the chances of implantation and pregnancy.
It means hystero-salphingo-contrast sonography. It is a simple OPD procedure to evaluate the endometrial cavity and patency of the fallopian tube.
